Welcome

Dear Candidate,

Appointment of Corporate Director of Education

I am delighted you have expressed an interest in this exciting opportunity within our Corporate Leadership Team.

Blaenau Gwent, situated within the South Wales Valleys and flanked by the Brecon Beacons, is a place of heritage and dramatic change with its eyes firmly on the future. Blaenau Gwent is a modern and economically ambitious Local Authority which has benefited from an immense amount of regeneration investment in recent years and is enjoying an exciting period of transformation.

In a financially challenging climate, the Council is focused on ensuring strong financial management and seeking innovative ways of delivering services, including a more commercial focus on income generation. Despite the need to make difficult decisions, the Council has a proven track record of implementing alternative service delivery models and working with partners to meet our objectives.

The Council’s Members and Officers take a strategic and pragmatic approach in facing these challenges and to the delivery of public services, whilst being focused on continuous improvement and achieving the best possible outcomes for residents.  Improving outcomes for all learners is a key priority for the Council and this is linked, through our regeneration work, to raising skills across our workforce and ensuring our residents can achieve their full potential.

I very much hope that you share our passion for public services and if you are excited by this opportunity, I look forward to receiving your application.

Yours sincerely

Michelle Morris
Managing Director

The Council is looking for a strong and ambitious Corporate Director who shares our vision, values and enthusiasm for education, actively contributing to a ‘one Council’ approach and delivering Council priorities always focussed on our residents and communities.
