Political awareness and ability will be very important for this role, and candidates will need to demonstrate an excellent track record of effective working which is grounded in a corporate perspective.

An impressive professional background in education is essential: you must share our absolute commitment to securing good education outcomes for children and young people.

You’ll have a track record of pragmatic, practical and outcome-focused working, with the abilty to work at pace and inspire those around you. A reasonable level of commercial awareness would be an advantage. Most important of all is your deep desire to lead in a high-performing and respected education service that’s already made great strides – and has no intention of resting on its laurels.

Candidates will have real credibility with elected members, expert colleagues, headteachers and partners within the school improvement system. While Welsh experience would be an asset, we would also encourage applications from those with experience in other UK education contexts.
